The Padres (60-47) were defeated by a score of 5-3 in the third game of four at Petco Park by the Colorado Rockies (46-59). Yu Darvish (7-6, 3.48) gave up five runs on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in six innings. Sam Hilliard scored on a Charlie Blackmon ground out and Brendan Rodgers hit a solo home run in the third inning. Elias Diaz and Germán Márquez each hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Connor Joe singled in the sixth inning to drive in Trevor Story.
Márquez (9-8, 3.51) allowed two runs on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in six innings. Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run home run with Adam Frazier on base in the third inning. Austin Nola‘s pinch-hit single drove in Jurickson Profar in the ninth inning.
Padres manager Jayce Tingler was ejected after the sixth inning for arguing with the home plate umpire over a really dumb called strike.
