Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.

The Padres (1-0) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (0-1) by a score of 8-7 in the first of four games at Petco Park and the first game of the 2021 season. Yu Darvish (0-0, 7.71) pitched four and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six. Asdrubal Cabrera singled in Ketel Marte for one run in the first inning. The Diamondbacks hit four home runs in the fifth inning — two off Darvish (Marte & Cabrera) and two off reliever Tim Hill (Tim Locastro & Stephen Vogt) — for six runs. Keone Kela, Emilio Pagán, Drew Pomeranz, and Mark Melancon combined to shutout the Diamondbacks over the final four innings.

Madison Bumgarner (0-0, 13.50) allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts in four innings. Wil Myers and Jake Cronenworth scored on Victor Caratini‘s second inning bases-loaded single. Eric Hosmer & Myers hit back-to-back solo home runs and Caratini drove in Cronenworth with a single in the third inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on a Hosmer double in the fourth inning. Hosmer singled in Tucupita Marcano in the sixth inning. Cronenworth scored the go-ahead run on Jurickson Profar‘s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
