The Padres (33-20) scored fewer runs than the Seattle Mariners (23-29) in the second of three games at Petco Park, 4-1. Luis Patiño (0-0, 5.51) got the start in place Mike Clevinger — who was scratched because of right biceps tightness — allowing one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings. Dylan Moore scored on a Ty France single in the first inning. Luis Torrens doubled in the third inning to drive in Kyle Seager and Jose Marmolejos (Torrens was thrown out at third base on what was scored as a 7-6-5-8 putout). Kyle Lewis hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Justus Sheffield (4-3, 3.75) gave up one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on a single by Manny Machado in the third inning.
