The Padres (19-14) scored fewer runs than the Seattle Mariners (13-20), 8-3, in the finale of their three-game Vedder Cup series at Petco Park. This game was postponed from the night before due to the walkout by players as a protest of the Jacob Blake shooting.
Garrett Richards (1-2, 5.17) lasted only two-thirds of an inning, giving up six runs on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts. J.P. Crawford scored on Kyle Seager‘s sacrifice fly, José Marmolejos hit a grand slam home run, and Shed Long Jr. hit a solo home run in the first inning. In the seventh inning, Crawford scored on a double by Sam Haggerty and Austin Nola singled to drive in Haggerty.
Yusei Kikuchi (1-2, 6,12) allowed three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out six in five innings. Manny Machado hit a solo home run (his third home run of the day) in the first inning. Jurickson Profar singled to drive in Jake Cronenworth in the second inning. Trent Grisham‘s single in the fifth inning scored Jorge Mateo.
