The Padres (11-11) scored fewer runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (10-11) in the second game of their three-game series at Chase Field, 7-6. Cal Quantrill (2-0, 2,20) gave up one run on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Christian Walker scored on a single by Carson Kelly in the fourth inning. Walker scored again on a double by Nick Ahmed, a Kole Calhoun groundout drove in Kelly, and Ketel Marte‘s bunt single drove in Ahmed in the sixth inning. Kelly singled to drive in David Peralta and Eduardo Escobar scored on an Ahmed single in the seventh inning.

Alex Young (1-0, 3.86) allowed one run on four hits and walk while striking out five in four and a third innings. Fernando Tatís Jr. hit a solo home run in the first inning. Tatís Jr. scored on Eric Hosmer‘s two-run home run in the eighth inning. Tatís Jr. hit a ground-rule double to drive in Edward Olivares & Manny Machado and Greg Garcia‘s single scored Tatís Jr. in the ninth inning.
