The Padres (8-7) scored fewer runs, 3-2, than the Arizona Diamondbacks (6-9) in the second game of three at Petco Park. Chris Paddack (2-1, 3.18) gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. Starling Marte scored on a Stephen Vogt sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Marte and Vogt each hit solo home runs in the sixth inning.

Merrill Kelly (2-1, 2.29) allowed one run on six hits and no walks while striking out four in six innings. Fernando Tatís Jr. once again led off the first inning with a solo home run and hit another solo home run in the eighth inning.
