The Padres (34-22) scored fewer runs than the Los Angeles Angels (26-31), 5-2, in the finale of their two-game series at Petco Park. Mike Clevinger (3-2, 3.02) pitched one inning with no hits or walks and two strikeouts before exiting the game with the same biceps tightness that was to blame for his last start being scratched. Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run home run and Justin Upton & Anthony Bemboom each hit solo home runs in the second inning. Taylor Ward scored on a single by David Fletcher in the sixth inning.

Jaime Barria (1-0, 3.62) gave up two runs on three hits and no walks or strikeouts in two innings. Eric Hosmer hit a two-run home run with Manny Machado on base in the first inning.
