The Padres (36-37) scored more runs than the Milwaukee Brewers (40-32), 2-0, in the first of three games at Petco Park. Joey Lucchesi (6-4, 3.74) shut the Brewers out over seven innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five.
Jhoulys Chacin (3-8, 5.60) gave up two runs on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings. Eric Hosmer scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Manny Machado hit a solo home run in the third inning.
