The Padres (3-3) scored fewer runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (3-3), 8-5, in the second game of three at Petco Park. Zack Greinke (1-1, 9.31) was a one-man wrecking crew, pitching six innings while giving up three runs on six hits and no walks with ten strikeouts, and also hitting two home runs; a three-run in the fourth inning and a solo in the sixth inning. Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run home run in the first inning and a solo in the sixth off Greinke. Wil Myers hit a pinch-hit two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Eric Lauer (1-1, 3.27) pitched five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Along with Greinke’s two home runs, Ketel Marte hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, John Ryan Murphy hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, and Christian Walker hit a solo shot in the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Jarrod Dyson drew a walk but Trey Wingenter was charged with a wild pitch that allowed Wilmer Flores to score from third base.
Andy Green was ejected in the sixth inning after arguing about an interference call against Manny Machado on a foul pop-up to Murphy that Murphy dropped.
