The Padres (4-3) scored more runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (3-4) in the finale of their three-game series at Petco Park, 4-1. Joey Lucchesi (2-0, 0.00) pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out six. The Diamondbacks’ lone run came in the ninth inning when Jake Lamb knocked in David Peralta with a double off of Kirby Yates.

Robbie Ray (0-1, 4.35) gave up two runs on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts in five and a third innings. Francisco Mejia drove in Fernando Tatis Jr. with a double in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Eric Hosmer drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Manny Machado home. Machado hit his first home run as a Padre in the seventh inning, a two-run shot with Ian Kinsler on base.
