The Padres (16-11) scored more runs, 8-3 in ten innings, than the Washington Nationals (11-14) in the second of three games at Nationals Park. Eric Lauer (2-3, 4.41) pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six. Juan Soto hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Stephen Strasburg (2-1, 3.82) gave up two runs on four hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Hunter Renfroe hit a two-run home run in the second inning. In the tenth inning Ty France scored on a Greg Garcia sacrifice fly, Manny Machado drew a bases-loaded walk that brought Francisco Mejia home, and Machado & Manuel Margot scored on a Renfroe sacrifice fly and a throwing error.
