The Padres (64-74) scored fewer runs, 2-1, than the Jingle Bells of Arizona (72-67) in the second game of three at Chase Field. Ronald Bolaños (0-1, 3.00) made his Major League debut, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings. Josh Rojas singled to drive in Ketel Marte and Rojas scored on a Jake Lamb ground out in the first inning.

Merrill Kelly (10-13, 4.69) shut the Padres out over seven innings on three hits and two walks while striking out nine. Hunter Renfroe scored on Wil Myers‘ single in the ninth inning.
