The Padres (59-67) scored fewer runs than the Cincinnati Reds (60-66), 4-2, in the finale of their three-game series at Great American Ballpark. Matt Strahm (5-8, 5.11) started the Padres’ Bullpen Day by shutting out the Reds over two innings, giving up two hits and no walks with four strikeouts. In the third inning, Eugenio Suarez singled to drive in Nick Senzel, Suarez scored on a Freddy Galvis bases-loaded walk, and Aristides Aquino scored on a base-loaded walk to Josh VanMeter. Jose Iglesias hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Luis Castillo (12-5, 3.04) allowed one run on five hits and no walks while striking out four in five innings. Ty France scored on Greg Garcia‘s double in the third inning. Francisco Mejía hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
