The Padres (59-66) scored fewer runs, 3-2, than the Cincinnati Reds (59-66) in the second game of three at Great American Ballpark. Cal Quantrill (6-4, 3.32) gave up three runs on five hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over six innings. Josh VanMeter scored on Aristides Aquino‘s single in the first inning. Freddy Galvis hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Sonny Gray (9-6, 2.92) allowed one run on four hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts in six innings. Josh Naylor hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. Greg Garcia scored on a throwing error on a ground out by Eric Hosmer in the eighth inning.
