The Padres (8-4) were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates (4-7) by a score of 8-4 in the second game of four at PNC Park. It was an ugly game, starting with Blake Snell (0-0, 4.35) not getting out of the first inning, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout and was replaced by Craig Stammen with only two outs. Nabil Crismatt (0-1, 3,38) pitched five innings of relief, giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Jacob Stallings‘ double drove in Bryan Reynolds & Phillip Evans and Stallings scored on a double by Erik Gonzalez in the first inning. Reynolds singled to drive in Kevin Newman and Stallings singled to score Reynolds in the second inning. Adam Frazier came home in the third inning on a single by Newman. Colin Moran‘s single in the fifth inning scored Gonzalez. Gonzalez’s single in the eighth inning drove in Evans.
Chad Kuhl (0-1, 6.75) didn’t fare all that better, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits, seven walks, and a hit batsmen with one strikeout in three and two-thirds innings. The Padres drew thirteen walks, were hit by pitches three times, and left fifteen runners on base in the game. Trent Grisham led off the game with solo home run and Jurickson Profar drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Jake Cronenworth home in the first inning. Grisham scored on a wild pitch by Kuhl in the second inning. Grisham scored again in the fourth inning on a single by Eric Hosmer.
