The Padres (59-45) were defeated by a score of 10-4 in the second game of their two-game series against the Oakland Athletics (57-46) at Petco Park. Blake Snell (4-4, 5.44) allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks with one strikeout in four innings. Mark Canha scored on a Jed Lowrie sacrifice fly and Matt Chapman hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Elvis Andrus scored on Canha’s second inning single. Andrus singled to drive in Chapman and Canha’s single drove in Andrus in the fourth inning. Matt Olson scored when Chapman reached on a Fernando Tatis Jr. throwing error, Stephen Piscotty singled to drive in Chapman, and Andrus singled to score Piscotty in the seventh inning.

Sean Manaea (8-6, 3.01) pitched six shutout innings while allowing one hit and a walk with nine strikeouts. Austin Nola doubled to drive in Manny Machado in the seventh inning. Jake Cronenworth scored on a double by Jurickson Profar, Victor Caratini singled to drive in Wil Myers, and a wild pitch by Andrew Chafin to Adam Frazier allowed Profar to score in the ninth inning.
