The Padres (69-86) scored fewer runs than the Jingle Bells of Arizona (80-75), 4-2, in the second game of three at Petco Park. Cal Quantrill (6-8, 5.16) allowed one run on two hits and no walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Abraham Almonte scored on a sacrifice fly by Domingo Leyba in the first inning. Eduardo Escobar ground out in the sixth inning to drive in Almonte. In the eighth inning, Leyba doubled to drive in Almonte and Escobar single to bring Leyba home.

Luke Weaver (4-3, 2.94) didn’t allow a baserunner over two innings with one strikeout acting as the opener. Hunter Renfroe hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Eric Hosmer singled to drive in Nick Martini in the eighth inning.
