The Padres (54-61) scored more runs than the Colorado Rockies (52-64) in the second game of four at Petco Park, 7-1. Cal Quantrill (5-3, 3.21) shut out the Rockies over seven innings, giving up five hits and no walks while striking out five. Nolan Arenado scored on a ground out by Ian Desmond in the ninth inning.

Kyle Freeland (3-10, 7.06) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings. Manuel Margot & Luis Urías scored on a double by Fernando Tatís Jr. in the third inning. Urías scored on Wil Myers‘ single in the fifth inning. Eric Hosmer came home on a ground out by Urías and Josh Naylor hit a three-run pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning.
