The Padres (17-13) defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates (12-16) by a score of 2-0 in the the first of three games at Petco Park. Miguel Diaz (0-0, 0.00) pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out three.
Tyler Anderson (2-3, 3.24) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts over six and two-thirds innings. Tommy Pham‘s sacrifice fly drove in Manny Machado and a double by Austin Nola scored Wil Myers in the seventh inning.
