The Padres (46-52) scored fewer runs than the Chicago Cubs (54-44), 6-5, in the second game of three at Wrigley Field. Joey Lucchesi (7-5, 4.27) gave up six runs on ten hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four and a third innings. Javier Báez scored on Anthony Rizzo‘s ground out and Robel Garcia hit a triple to drive in Kris Bryant in the first inning. Báez scored on Rizzo’s single in the third inning. Báez hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

José Quintana (8-7, 4.42) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings. Fernando Tatís Jr. hit a solo home run and Manny Machado hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Luis Urías scored on a sacrifice fly by Tatís Jr. in the fourth inning. Hunter Renfroe hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
