The Padres (11-8) scored fewer runs, 8-2, than the Colorado Rockies (6-12) in the finale of their two-game series at Petco Park. Nick Margevicius (1-2, 3.60) pitched just four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Charlie Blackmon hit an RBI double in the second inning. Raimel Tapia tripled to drive in two more runs in the third inning. Garret Hampson hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. A sacrifice fly by Mark Reynolds drove in another run and Tapia ground into a fielder’s choice to drive in the Rockies’ final run of the night.
Jon Gray (1-3, 3.42) gave up one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five over seven innings. Wil Myers hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Manny Machado scored on Fernando Tatis Jr.’s double in the ninth inning.
