The Padres (42-45) scored fewer runs than the Los Angeles Dodgers (60-29), 5-1, in the first of four games at Dodger Stadium. Dinelson Lamet (0-1, 5.40) made his first Major League start since 2017, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings. Max Muncy hit a solo home run in the second inning. In the fifth inning, Joc Pederson was hit by pitch with the bases loaded bringing Matt Beaty in and Chris Taylor scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Verdugo. Cody Bellinger hit a solo home run and Muncy scored on Taylor’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (10-2, 1.73) threw six shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walk while striking out five. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on Eric Hosmer‘s single in the eighth inning.
