The Padres (37-37) scored more runs, 4-1, than the Milwaukee Brewers (40-33) in the second game in their three-game series at Petco Park. Logan Allen (1-0, 0.00) shutout the Brewers over seven innings on three hits and two walks while striking out five in his Major League debut. Jesus Aguilar scored on a wild pitch by Trey Wingenter to Lorenzo Cain in the eighth inning.

Brandon Woodruff (8-2, 4.02) gave up four runs on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings. Allen scored on Mike Moustakas’ throwing error after catching an Eric Hosmer line drive out and Manny Machado hit a ground-rule double to drive in Greg Garcia in the fifth inning. Francisco Mejia hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
