The Padres (6-3) scored fewer runs than the Colorado Rockies (5-2), 6-1, in the second of three games at Coors Field. Joey Lucchesi (0-1, 8.44) lasted just one and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Garrett Hampson scored on a Drew Butera sacrifice fly, Chris Owings scored on a wild pitch by Lucchesi, and Charlie Blackmon singled in David Dahl in the second inning. Matt Kemp hit a solo home run in the third inning. Trevor Story hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. A single by Owings drove in Kemp in the fifth inning.

Kyle Freeland (2-0, 1.50) pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four. Trent Grisham hit a solo home run in the eighth inning.
