The Padres (17-12) scored more runs, 13-2, than the Houston Astros (15-12) in the second game of three at Petco Park. Zach Davies (4-2, 3.03) pitched eight innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Jose Altuve scored on a sacrifice fly by Yuli Gurriel in the first inning. Taylor Jones hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Brandon Bielak (1-1, 4.37) allowed seven runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in one and a third innings. Trent Grisham and Manny Machado each hit solo home runs in the first inning. In the second inning, Wil Myers hit a solo home run, Grisham hit a three-run home run with Jake Cronenworth & Jurickson Profar on base, Fernando Tatís Jr. scored on a single by Ty France, and Cronenworth hit a grand slam home run with Machado, France, & Myers on base. Grisham hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning with Cronenworth on base.
