The Padres (42-41) scored fewer runs than the St Louis Cardinals (41-41) in the finale of their three-game series at Petco Park, 5-3 in eleven innings. Joey Lucchesi (6-4, 3.91) pitched five and a third innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six. Jose Martinez and Paul DeJong scored on Yairo Munoz‘ single in the sixth inning. Paul Goldschmidt scored on Franmil Reyes‘ error fielding a Tyler O’Neill single in the eighth inning. Matt Wieters hit a two-run home run in the eleventh inning.

Miles Mikolas (5-8, 4.34) allowed three runs on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts over six innings. Manny Machado hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored from first base on Eric Hosmer‘s single in the fifth inning.
