The Padres (6-3) scored more runs than the St Louis Cardinals (3-5), 6-4, in the second game of three at Busch Stadium. Chris Paddack (0-0, 1.04) gave up one run on one hit and four walks with four strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Yadier Molina scored on a Kolten Wong sacrifice fly in the second inning. Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run home run off Robert Stock in the fifth inning. In the eighth inning, Tyler O’Neill drove in Dexter Fowler with a single.

Michael Wacha (0-0, 1.54) pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on three hits and eight walks while striking out seven. Hunter Renfroe drove in Eric Hosmer with a double in the first inning. Hosmer hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Austin Hedges and Manny Machado each hit two-run home runs in the eighth inning.
