The Padres (38-39) scored fewer runs than the Pittsburgh Pirates (35-40), 6-3, in the second game of three at PNC Park. Chris Paddack (4-4, 3.18) gave up two runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout in five innings. Jose Osuna hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. In the eighth inning, Adam Frazier’s bases-loaded single scored two, a single by Elias Diaz scored one more, and a sacrifice fly by Jung Ho Kang scored the Pirates’ final run.

Chris Archer (3-6, 5.56) allowed one run over five innings on two hits and three walks while striking out five. Manny Machado hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Manuel Margot scored on a Fernando Tatis Jr. sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Machado’s single in the ninth inning drove in Tatis Jr.
