Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after a couple of days of partying with fellow Padres fans in the Gaslamp. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a friendly reminder of what we may have missed while we were drinking.
The Padres (3-2) scored fewer runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (2-3), 10-3, in the first of three games at Petco Park. Matt Strahm (0-1) gave up five runs on eight hits and three walk while striking out two in two and two-thirds innings. Adam Jones hit a leadoff home run and David Peralta drove in Wilmer Flores with a double in the first inning. Eduardo Escobar singled with the bases loaded in the second inning to drive in Alex Avila. In the third inning, Peralta scored on a Nick Ahmed sacrifice fly and Avila drove in Ketel Marte with a single. Marte singled to drive in Peralta, Christian Walker scored on an Ahmed double, and Marte & Ahmed scored on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning. Jake Lamb singled in the seventh inning to drive in Marte.
Merrill Kelly (1-0) pitched six-plus innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Eric Hosmer scored on a Franmil Reyes sacrifice fly and Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his first Major League home run — a two-run monster shot to left field — with Manny Machado on base in the sixth inning.
