The Padres (17-14) scored fewer runs than the Atlanta Braves (15-15), 5-1, in the third game of their four-game series at SunTrust Park. Cal Quantrill (0-1, 3.18) pitched five and two-thirds inning in his Major League debut, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Ozzie Albies scored on Dansby Swanson sacrifice fly in the first inning. In the fifth inning, Ender Inciarte scored on a double by Albies. Ronald Acuña single to drive in Charlie Culberson and later scored on a two-run home run by Swanson in the seventh inning.
Max Fried (4-1, 2.11) gave up one run on four hits and no walks with seven strikeout in seven innings. Manny Machado hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
