The Padres (70-91) scored fewer runs, 6-5, than the Jingle Bells of Arizona (84-77) in the second of three games at Chase Field. Garrett Richards (0-1, 8.31) allowed one run on one hit and four walks with four strikeouts in three and a third innings. Christian Walker hit a solo home run in the second inning. Alex Avila scored on Jarrod Dyson‘s double and Walker hit a grand slam home run in the seventh inning.

Robbie Ray (12-8, 4.34) gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out ten over six innings. Manny Machado hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Luis Urías hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Ty France scored on an Urías single in the sixth inning. Eric Hosmer hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
