The Padres scored more runs than the Giants in Game 2 of the series, 4-1. Joey Lucchesi went five and a third shutout innings with seven strikeouts, allowing two walks and three hits. Evan Longoria hit a solo home run off Phil Maton to lead off the ninth inning.

Derek Holland allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in four innings for the Giants. Manuel Margot hit a two-run single to drive in Eric Hosmer and Fernando Tatis Jr. in the second inning. Ian Kinsler hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Wil Myers scored on a Franmil Reyes sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
